The Dress. The Suit. The Accessory.
Dressing up is fun. Loads and loads of fun, and your wedding is the biggest dress up of all. Planning what you and your bridesmaids will be wearing on your wedding day is, for some women, a matter of going out and buying something fabulous off the rack, while for others it is the one time they will have a couture garment made for them, complete with fittings and fabric choices. Nowadays, there really are no rules when it comes to choosing a wedding gown – white of course is still popular, but some girls look better in ivory and others look fabulous in deep purple or glowing red – it really is up to you. And the styles! Flouncy, slinky, modern, vintage, beaded, minimalist, draped and ruffled – there is so much to consider. So if you are a girl who takes a while to make up her mind, allow yourself a good few months before the wedding to find your perfect dress.
For the men, a two or three piece tuxedo or morning suit with simple neckwear remains a perennial favourite. You can add interest with touches of colour, different cuts in collars, cuffs and lapels, with the groom sometimes wearing a slightly different variation from the groomsmens’ ensemble so as to stand out. Just consider the weather when making your choice – a hot summer day spent wearing a three piece suit and ascot is not going to be fun for anyone – stick to a two piece suit or even open collar shirt with dress trousers for a hot day, especially appropriate for a beach style wedding.
Finally, a word about the bridesmaids – your best friends, sisters and the girls who are there to support you on your big day – treat them well. Give them input into colours and styles so they have dresses they are proud of and happy to wear again one day – they will thank you for it.
