The Dress. The Suit. The Accessory.
Choosing your wedding dress can be an emotional experience - whether you buy off the rack or have something custom made, you’re choosing a garment in which you want to feel and look your absolute best. However, let’s have some fun, right? It’s hard not to get excited when faced with acres of silk, tulle and sequins, and even if you’re not much of a shopper, making a day to try on wedding gowns with family or close friends is a lovely part of planning your wedding. Vintage is still a predominant trend, with influences from the 20’s to the 50’s being seen in shapes, fabrics and embellishment, while tea length, where the hem of the gown sits above the ankles, is very popular (plus lets you show off those fantastic shoes). The recent royal wedding with its all white bridal party is also a strong influence, while other brides are opting for coloured wedding gowns (think Reese Witherspoon in pink). There really are no limits these days, so have fun and let your style shine. Let’s not forget about the groom – it’s your day as well, so be creative and be comfortable in your choice of wedding attire. While a well-cut dark suit is never going to go out of style, Michael from Mickey Blue says ‘there’s a strong movement towards a more contemporary feel, with many grooms buying something they can wear again.’ Different options in fabrics, colours and cuts should all be considered – your suit supplier can assist in finding the best style for you.
Options abound for bridesmaids as well - many brides are now choosing either different dresses in the same fabric or similar dresses in different colours in styles to suit each bridesmaid that can be worn again, something I’m sure is much appreciated. Accessorise your look with glorious shoes, embellished bags and shimmering jewels to enjoy a wedding day that is an expression of your own personal style.
