Flowers can be used in so many ways, from bouquets and boutonnieres to centrepieces and garlands, and the current trend towards vintage and rustic style weddings gives us even more scope to play. Creating centrepieces using recycled glass bottles and ‘old fashioned’ blossoms like hydrangeas, sweet peas and full bloom roses is a charming and personal way to dress your tables – wrap the bottles with paper doilys and ribbons for a touch of vintage glamour. Scattering petals on tablecloths and along the aisle is a lovely and simple way to add colour and romance to your wedding, while using flowers to decorate your cake is a beautiful way to tie in with your theme. When it comes to bouquets, colour is making a big comeback, so speak to your florist about some different options when creating your wedding flowers – for instance herbs, succulents and even fruit are not traditional for weddings but their varied colours and beautiful scents make them a lovely and unusual addition to your floral arrangements.
Once you’ve set your budget (about 10% of your overall wedding budget is the recommended figure), another thing worth asking your florist is which flowers are in season as this can save you money.
